Bark Medicine

Just as as the green plants offer us medicine, so do the shrubs and trees through their bark! Oak, Red Osier, and Crampbark will be just a few plants we will encounter on this interactive walk.

About the event

Winter and very early spring are a dormant time for most plants but that does not mean that there isn’t harvesting that can be done for our home apothecaries. Barks are just one of the medicinals that can be harvested during this season and during this workshop, students will learn the basics of harvesting bark and how to prepare the bark for medicinal purposes. Alcohol and oil preparations will both be covered.

On our walk, we will spend extra time learning about Burr Oak, Crampbark, and Red Osier but we will also encounter Elder, Eastern Red Cedar, Sumac, and Roses. We may even identify some of the baby medicinal and edible plants along the way!

Kara will contact you with specific meeting location upon receipt of registration and payment.

*This workshop is completely outside.

Exchange: $30
