If you are a client of mine, you know that I will ask you about your digestive system often if not at each visit we have together.

The digestive system is central, literally, to every single one of our beings.

Every other system of our body relies on the digestive system being able to do its job well.

And yet, the digestive system is one of the most common systems for folks to experience symptoms - either directly or indirectly.

In 2019, the results of a rather large survey was published and in those results, it was reported that roughly 61% of Americans experienced one or more digestive symptoms in the last week. Heartburn/ acid reflux, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation being the most commonly experienced symptoms.

Six out of 10 Americans, every week.

This number has a way of finding deeper significance when you know that the digestive system is very closely connected with our nervous system/ brain function/ mood, immune system, skin, hormonal “balance”, metabolic health, respiratory health, and cardiovascular system.

Rather than exploring the long rabbit-hole of the digestive systems interconnectedness, I’d love to share with you a story from one of my clients.

This client, a 40-something husband, dad, and working man, came to me after he had taken trip after trip to the ER. One year before I met this client, he had his first episode: uncontrollable vomiting accompanied by rolling pain in the lower abdomen which he described as being like “getting punched over and over” (pain level of 6-8). The cycle would continue until he ended up in the ER where they would give him IV fluids and send him on his way.

Outside of his ER visits, he explored biopsies, a colonoscopy, and medications with his doctor. The medications didn’t help and no other direction presented itself through the other testing modalities.

After his first episode, there was about a 5-6 month gap before he had 5 more episodes over the course of five months. It was at this point that we started working together.

I met with him - explored his health history, the episodes (possible causes, triggers, patterns, etc.), dietary patterns/routine, lifestyle. Then, I took a look at his tongue, muscle tested him to see what organs and areas were looking for support, and pulse tested him to help determine which herbal medicines might be most helpful for his body*.

After working together for just 4 months, he had only one mild episode which he had linked with eating something he normally wouldn’t eat. In this episode, though, he had some vomiting but experienced no pain - a *huge* improvement.

Since he was about 2 ½ months without another episode at the time of his last consultation with me, we agreed on a plan for the herbal remedies and I shared I’d touch base on occasion. When I checked in with him last, he said he was doing great and hasn’t had another episode. Since then, no news from him is good news, as he let me know he would be in touch if something were to change.

What a testimonial, right?!

Herbal medicines surely are incredible.

If you or someone you know struggles with their digestive system in any way, please know that you (or they) are not alone and know that the digestive system (and the whole body) is designed to heal.

* P.S. I do hope you understand that because each herbal combination and dosage is so individualized, I am intentionally not mentioning the herbs that this client worked with in this letter.
