The other day after the fresh snowfall, I sat on the forest floor and admired the “new” landscape.

Snowfalls such as the one we just received often feel like a gift in these early Winter days as the darkness is now just a few short weeks from its peak (on Winter Solstice, December 21st).

With December and January being two of the darkest months of the year, this snow offers us, inspires us, and/or nudges us to do some of the very things that our bodies need in order to thrive all year long.

A snowy landscape, a trail with trees on either side.

The snow invites us to…

Take more time for quiet and/or solitude - more time to simply be.

Move at a slower pace (literally and metaphorically).

Reflect.

Nourish with warming, satisfying meals from the latest harvest.

Simplify - in whatever way(s) you see your body and/or environment needs.

Winter is nature’s season of rest.

A season of rest before the next cycle of growth begins in the Springtime.

We too thrive having a regular season of rest, for we are not meant to live in perpetual Summertime - constantly going and doing.

Although there is much I could write to you on this topic, I’m choosing instead to lean into the quiet yet profound medicine of the season we are easing into. And so, l refrain from writing much more than what seems necessary. In my next letter, I will share more on wintertime, but in the meantime, leaning into one or more of the bullet points listed above can make such a big difference. Truly.

Might you join me in allowing this first blanket of snow to remind us of the medicine of Winter, the season of rest - however that may feel best to you in the season of life you are currently journeying?

Be well,

~ Kara
