"You are the Medicine" - Recent Reflections
Even though the bright yellow black walnut leaves fluttering to the ground in the breeze outside my office window tempt me to reflect upon and share more about the season we are journeying through, I feel a greater pull to share something from the 2nd Annual Herb Fest put on by the St. Croix Valley Herb Guild that took place a couple of Saturdays ago.

(As a side note, this gathering is incredible. The location, the people, the presentations.. The community, all of it. I have been able to participate in this gathering both years so far and I would highly recommend making a note for yourself to keep an eye out for it next year!)
For the first session of the day, since I was not teaching, I chose to sit in on a talk by Kali Higgins about Astrology and Flower Essences. What a fascinating and inspiring conversation and topic!
Many of the things she shared resonated with me but today I would like to share a couple of points with you that I feel are such good reminders:
First, “You are the medicine.”
My interpretation of this is that everything beautiful is either already within you or you have everything within you to create it. Flower essences assist your body, they do not work for your body. Herbal tinctures work with your body in a similar sort of way, especially when working with drop doses (very small amounts), which is the way that I work with most all tinctures.
In consultations, particularly when I recommend flower essences, I explain to clients that they already have so many good, beautiful, positive qualities - however one might want to think of it - within them. Oftentimes, as we go through life we accumulate “stuff” (emotions, beliefs, etc.) which isn’t ours and it can mute or submerge our innate self. Clearing those things away allows us to come back to the surface again. Flower essences are incredibly helpful in this process.
Second, paraphrased, ‘(Within a consultation).. Yes, there’s the essences doing the work with you AND it’s having someone - a practitioner - to touch base with and go to.’
Working alongside flower essences (and herbal tinctures) is a special and individual experience. Often, the process of healing and/or releasing is quite subtle, almost like the flower essence/tincture is helping your system shift and release things behind the scenes. Sometimes though, the process can be a bit tender, difficult, and/or emotional. Regardless how the experience is, it is a powerful thing knowing that you aren’t journeying alone and that you have someone (your practitioner) to reach out to no matter if it is for some extra support or if you simply need someone to be there for you to hear your stories and experiences, someone to be witness to your journey.
What a beautiful thing - to lean into trusting that you are the medicine and to know that you don’t need to journey alone if you don’t want to.
Be Well 💜 and might you soak up the ever-shifting beauty of this season,
~ Kara
